The Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority (SLAC) recently conducted essential maintenance on the Causeway Bridge in collaboration with local experts FKG and the swing bridge designer/installer, Hollandia Services. Following an initial assessment by the Hollandia team, it was discovered that the generator’s voltage regulator was malfunctioning, causing the generator to shut down unexpectedly. The SLAC team has since performed various tests to prevent further issues.
During the maintenance period, there were instances that vessels needing to pass through the bridge were advised to use the French Side bridge whenever possible. SLAC appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during this time.
While the Causeway Bridge is now fully operational, occasional power outages continue to affect the generator. SLAC is committed to ensuring smooth bridge operations and minimizing any delays caused by the generator issues or scheduled loadshedding.
SLAC is working closely with GEBE to ensure that loadshedding does not occur during causeway bridge opening times, thereby reducing disruptions for both motorized and marine traffic. If you encounter any issues, please contact SLAC immediately via VHF channel 12 for assistance.
